AFU move to seize R57m

THE Asset Forfeiture Unit (AFU) will bring an application in the Grahamstown High Court today in a bid to seize R57-million held in a bank account of a company that was given a tender illegally to build low-income social development units in East London.

The account of the company, Camel Rock Social Housing Institution, has since been frozen, but the AFU is now bringing an application to have the funds forfeited to the state.

Camel Rock's directors – Gilbert Zuka, Thomas Mzamo and Cwenga Pakade, all of East London – are opposing the application. Zuka has applied for his living and legal expenses to be paid out of the preserved funds. The AFU is opposing his move on the basis that he has no interest in the preserved amount. - Hendrick Mphande
