Prisoner told to burn inmates' bloodied clothes, court hears

A PRISONER at St Albans Prison during an alleged mass torture in 2005 said he was forced to burn the inmates' bloodied clothes after they were savagely beaten by warders.
Once they had been stripped naked, the men were allegedly sprayed with water and beaten with shock boards.
These shocking claims form part of a multimillion-rand class action brought by 231 prisoners against Correctional Services Minister S'bu Ndebele.
The alleged assaults were seen as retribution for the murder of the unit manager of the maximum security section, Babini Nqakula, cousin of then Safety and Security Minister Charles Nqakula. - Kathryn Kimberley
