THE northern areas community has applauded a court's decision to deny bail to a suspected gangster accused of shooting dead a kite-loving child as he played outside his Helenvale home.
Jessican Charles, 24, of Gelvandale, was remanded after the Port Elizabeth Magistrate's Court found on Wednesday that he was a danger to society.
Charles is accused of shooting and killing five- year-old Luchen Pieterse while he flew his kite just metres from his Ibex Road home on March 24.
It is believed that little Luchen was caught in the crossfire of a gang-related shooting. He was shot in the head and rushed to Livingstone Hospital, where he later died. - Kathryn Kimberley
