Rio night for top pupils

Mandela Bay schools will gather at the Feather Market Centre next week for a fundraising event hosted by the Junior City Council. With a Rio de Janeiro theme, 320 pupils from 27 schools represented on the council will get a chance to interact and enjoy a night of great music and socialising with their peers. Junior city councillors, prefects, and young achievers will attend the event. The night will start off with junior mayor, Daniella Patsalos, addressing pupils on the importance of contributing to the community. The social event forms part of a fundraising subcommittee's initiative to raise money for underprivileged schools in the Bay to help provide them with necessary sports equipment and stationery. They aim to fund various other charities as well. The ball will see pupils from schools including Cillie, Theodor Herzl, Newton Technical, Sanctor, St Georges and Victoria Park high schools. Head of fundraising and junior councillor, Cayla-Rose Jack, said the event would give pupils from different schools an opportunity to meet and interact with each other, helping to create unity among them. "As part of the JCC's vision to develop the youth, this event has so far taught us councillors skills in organising, sourcing funding and event planning," she said. Guests will be entertained by Amuse Photobooth, Dare To Dance Studios Latin American dancers and DJ Spectrum. Tickets cost R100 and include a buffet meal. - Chanice Koopman
