Churches call on Zuma to deliver

WITH the elections done and dusted, religious leaders in Nelson Mandela Bay have called on the government to deliver on promises made by President Jacob Zuma's administration last month to improve services in the city.

In an open letter to city bosses, political parties and national and provincial governments, the religious leaders said they would continue to pray for officials to succeed in bringing good governance, peace and justice to residents.

When the religious leaders met Zuma and his high-powered team of ministers last month, they called for the eradication of corruption in the government, improvement in health and education administration, and the provision of basic services to residents. In the letter, the Ethiopian Episcopal Church's Bishop Lunga ka Siboto said they were hoping the Nooitgedagt low-level water augmentation scheme would soon be completed. - Mkhululi Ndamase
