Jail warning over voting booth selfies
TAKING selfies inside voting booths is illegal and could lead to prison time, the Electoral Commission says.
It appealed to voters yesterday to respect the privacy and secrecy of the poll and refrain from taking pictures in the voting booth and of their marked ballot papers in Wednesday's general election.
Commission spokeswoman Kate Bapela said the popularity of selfies – people talking photographs of themselves with a cellphone – along with a number of social media campaigns promoting voting selfies, had increased the risk of undermining the secrecy of the vote. - Thulani Gqirana
