Rharhabe file their challenge

THE Rharhabe royal house in the Eastern Cape has filed papers in the North Gauteng High Court to challenge a decision taken by President Jacob Zuma to set aside their kingship.

The decision to demote the Rharhabe kingdom to the status of senior traditional leadership was taken in 2010 and the Gcaleka royal house was recognised instead following a recommendation by the Nhlapo Commission.

Rharhabe royal house spokesman Prince Zolile Burns-Ncamashe said yesterday an affidavit had been filed to review the decision. The respondents – President Jacob Zuma and the commission – had filed answering affidavits. A judge would be appointed to preside over the matter. – Msindisi Fengu
