Child dies, 3 others injured after car crashes into them

One child has died and another three are fighting for their lives in hospital after an alleged drunk driver drove into them while they were pushing a vehicle in Xhama Street, Motherwell, at about 7pm on Tuesday night (15/04/14).

Relay Emergency Medical Services personnel were on the scene and took the three injured children to hospital.

Police arrested the driver of the vehicle that collided into them for drunk driving but details surrounding the accident remain sketchy and authorities were unable to give the estimate ages of the children.

Police spokesman Captain Andre Beetge said that it appeared the four children were pushing a vehicle that had broken down when another car approaching from behind collided into them.

Beetge confirmed that the driver was arrested for allegedly driving under the influence of alcohol
