Sugar babes tell academic of their longing for the '5 Cs'

AFTER seeing a news programme about the sugar-daddy phenomenon, a Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University doctoral student decided to base her research on the trend in the context of HIV/Aids.
Cheryl Kader, who is graduating at the university's 12th session today, studied five young women in relationships with men an average of 28 years older than themselves.
Her research was split into three parts – why these relationships happen, how they are negotiated, and their effects on vulnerability to HIV/Aids.
She found that relationships between the "sugar daddies" and "sugar babes" arose from the latter's need for material goods and an attractive, modern lifestyle. - Zandile Mbabela
