Opposition to boycott metro gala dinner

OPPOSITION parties in Nelson Mandela Bay plan to boycott tonight’s state of the metro address gala dinner, saying the glitzy event is nothing more than a campaign strategy by the ANC ahead of next month’s election.

The parties have lashed out at the metro’s political bosses for spending R300 000 for a feast at a time when the municipality is battling to find money to fund its R4-billion infrastructure maintenance backlog.

Tonight’s formal dinner, for which the metro invited 600 guests to the Feather Market Centre, is aimed at trying to fix severed relationships between the city and business and civil society.
