Vindicated Vavi gets the green light to go back
COSATU boss Zwelinzima Vavi is gearing up to go to work on Monday for the first time in almost nine months after a court victory which put an end to his suspension yesterday.
Johannesburg High Court Deputy Judge President Phineas Mojapelo yesterday found that Vavi’s suspension was unlawful and gave the green light for him to return to Cosatu headquarters.
However, Vavi’s victory might be short-lived as Cosatu affiliates will meet on Tuesday and are expected to decide whether to appeal yesterday’s court ruling.
At least one union, Nehawu, is already pushing for Cosatu to appeal the ruling.
Yesterday, it said it would consult with its legal team as it believed the ruling did not “condone fornication between comrade Vavi and a worker under his authority during working hours and in the federation’s premises”.
