Detective faces prison term

APOLICE detective who was acquitted internally of fraud and corruption and kept on the state payroll, now faces a jail term after a Port Elizabeth court found her guilty of the offence.

Constable Lusanda Mpongoma, of Kabega Park, who is based at the Gelvandale police station, appeared in the Port Elizabeth Regional Court yesterday, where a probation officer said her lack of remorse proved she was not a suitable candidate for a non-custodial sentence.

Mpongoma, in her 30s, will be sentenced on May 29. The state is expected to call for a lengthy term of imprisonment.
