Tose guilty of brutal child rape

THERE were gasps of relief as the man accused of committing one of the most brutal acts of child rape ever heard by the Port Elizabeth High Court was convicted yesterday. State prosecutor Marlini Moodley asked the court to impose a sentence of life imprisonment on Xolile Tose of KwaNoxolo as the rape would have a lifelong impact on the victim.

She said the case had garnered a large amount of outrage, especially on social media where people were calling for the death penalty to be reinstated and for Tose to be castrated.

He will be sentenced today.

Judge Jeremy Pickering convicted Tose yesterday of raping a sixyear-old girl in Motherwell on December 16 and 17 in 2011.
