Police vehicle crisis drags on

EASTERN Cape police bosses have admitted there is a challenge with the “constant availability” of vehicles for the police’s Flying Squad and K9 units.

Earlier this year, the Herald reported on the ongoing vehicle crisis, and provincial police commissioner General Cynthia Binta launched an investigation.

Members of the units claim more than 15 of their cars are sitting in police garages awaiting repairs and that there are only four functioning vehicles between both units.

Binta’s spokeswoman, Brigadier Marinda Mills, said yesterday the investigation had been completed.
