Callaghan leads drive to keep the doors of PE hospice open

CANCER survivor and former South African and Eastern Province cricketer Dave Callaghan is batting for a noble cause – to keep the doors of St Francis Hospice in Port Elizabeth open.

Callaghan is challenging anyone with the financial means to assist the hospice, which is in dire financial straits.

“It is a cause very close to my heart as even though I wasn’t terminally ill, I was in contact with many who were,” Callaghan said last week when accepting the appointment as brand ambassador for the hospice.

“I had cancer in 1992 and feel it is really important to help a place like hospice keep its doors open,” he said.
