First blind students settling in
AFTER going through a strong bout of cold feet about attending a university that had initially rejected him for his total blindness – citing a lack of facilities – Avukile Jeke is happy he decided to attend Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University.
Jeke, 21, along with Yanelisa Gininda, 19, and Lubabalo Sapepa, 21, who matriculated from Mthatha's Efata School for the Blind last year, wrapped up their first week of lectures on Friday on a positive note.
The first week of university is a nerve-racking one for first-year students and for NMMU's first totally blind students, it was just as hectic.
