Six killed, 12 injured in horror crash

EASTERN Cape Transport MEC Thandiswa Marawu has ordered an investigation into a taxi accident on the Van Stadens bridge early yesterday that left six people dead and 12 seriously injured when the vehicle smashed through concrete barriers.

The N2 highway was closed for hours as rescue workers had to cut passengers and the driver from the wreckage. The driver was airlifted by an Emergency Medical Services helicopter. Traffic was diverted through Van Stadens Pass.

Emergency repair teams were called in to fix damage to the bridge.
