Teenager dies after beating

A PORT Elizabeth grandmother is searching for answers following the tragic death of her grandson five days after he was allegedly assaulted by a secure care centre worker.
Siphosethu Mali, 17, from New Brighton, died in hospital on Friday. He had been admitted to the intensive care unit on Monday last week after he was badly beaten during an altercation following his escape from the Ekuselweni Secure Care Centre in Kwazakhele with five other boys.
The facility accommodates youths awaiting trial. Siphosethu's grandmother, Ntomboxolo Mali, who raised him, said yesterday they had hoped he would return home a reformed person.
