Red October sparks lively public debate


ONLY about 50 people gathered at Shark Rock Pier in Summerstrand to release red balloons into the sky yesterday as a controversial nationwide Red October campaign sparked public debate on Twitter yesterday.


Some of the issues which were raised by the campaign include white genocide, torture of the elderly, "racist broad-based Black Economic Empowerment (BEE) and affirmative action" and the poor conditions of health care, infrastructure and education.


"It [the campaign] signifies the murder of our people. We are here to tell the government we will not stand for racist based regulation," John Dex, speaker at the Port Elizabeth gathering, said.
