Fernglen murder: husband charged

A PORT Elizabeth restaurateur who allegedly slit his wife's throat and then claimed they had been attacked, has been charged with premeditated murder.

American national Nathan Lewis, 44, appeared briefly in the Port Elizabeth Magistrate's Court yesterday afternoon. Wearing a blue tracksuit and reading glasses, he appeared confident as court orderlies led him to the dock.

Magistrate Abigail Beaton remanded him until next week, when he will have an opportunity to apply for bail.

He is represented by lawyer Ryno Scholtz. Lewis was arrested on Sunday, shortly after he rushed his wife, Debbie, 36, to Greenacres Hospital.

He claimed they had been attacked during a break-in at their Fernglen home and her throat slashed.
