'Super 6' suburban family of house robbers nabbed

A SUBURBAN mother and her two children were among seven people arrested in Port Elizabeth in connection with a string of burglaries and house robberies from Kenton-on-Sea to Plettenberg Bay.

They are thought to have been involved in more than 40 cases in Nelson Mandela Bay alone.

The arrest of the "Super Six" gang on Monday was the result of an intensive six-month investigation by the Kabega Park Trio Task Team, which handles serious and violent crime cases.

The family – a 40-year-old mother and her son and daughter, both in their 20s – are believed to be the masterminds behind the two-year crime spree. They allegedly recruited friends as their criminal enterprise expanded.

The seven suspects were arrested in a coordinated raid on their homes in Bluewater Bay, Sherwood, Kabega Park and North End.

They cannot be named until they appear in court.

Several stolen items were allegedly found at the houses. Others were recovered from a river and a dam.

Police said more arrests were expected.
