POLICE officers from all over South Africa are taking part in a four-day mixed martial arts championship in Port Elizabeth.

The 110 officers, representing their provinces, have been competing for national police titles in various disciplines at Humepark Hall in Humerail since Monday.

Martial arts disciplines included in the championship are full- and semi-contact karate, judo and kick boxing.

Last night a national police mixed martial arts team – selected at the tournament – competed against Eastern Cape teams made up of civilians.
