Getting SA to read again

"READING creates a thinking society and our society needs thinkers. You can't think if you do not read."

Sports, Arts and Culture MEC Xoliswa Tom said this to encourage South Africans to get into a culture of reading books.

Tom was the guest speaker at the launch of National Book Week at the City Hall in Port Elizabeth yesterday.

National Book Week, held in Nelson Mandela Bay's Red Location Museum for the second consecutive year, will see young and old treated to a host of fun reading workshops with award-winning authors Zakes Mda, Deon Meyer, Chad Saaiman, Gcina Mhlophe, Bonnie Henna and Zolani Mkiva.

At the moment the city's libraries remain closed due to a strike by municipal workers.
