Thrift-shop finds more satisfying than mall-bought merchandise

The last of this weekend’s pre-Christmas “steal-your-bonus” advertising pamphlets (as thick as novels, really, rather than pamphlets) have been binned. When I buy a magazine or newspaper any time between October and New Year, I expect to find them.

Perhaps, with 2020 being our Year of Shocks, I’d anticipated retailers trimming down a bit — doing away with the fluff, perhaps, and tightening their belts...
