Your Skinnerbek hears all about brewing and designing in PE

Maxhosa designer Laduma Ngxokolo was back home and a festive Food Studio party of women brewing beer

Hello dolls, is it just me or has it been long since our last catchup? It might just be me and I’ll tell you why.
Your favourite gossip girl stepped out of town and took a sho’t left of some of the Eastern Cape’s tourist attractions from last Friday.
Spending Thursday night and enjoying breakfast on Friday at the Boardwalk Hotel made Skinnerbek realise she still had quite a lot to learn about the accommodation side of the award-winning establishment.
Although I am often disappointed by the catered food when I attend an event at the ICC, the breakfast I had at the hotel’s Kiplings Brasserie Restaurant was a lot more edible.
Anywho, to avoid boring you to death about my road trip out of town, I sent my minions to be my eyes and ears in the Bay.
Last Friday was International Women’s Day and one of my minions called at the Food Studio in Walmer for an International Women’s Collaboration Brew Day event.
The title was rather a mouthful but essentially it was a tie-in with a global event in which women got together on the same day to make and appreciate beer.
And yes, they managed more than ably thanks to the guidance of Jane Schlaphoff of Dockside Brewery which is based in North End now.
My minion even spotted a few dyed-in-the-wool wine fundis there, among them Roland and Janine Luders from PE Wine Lovers, and Weekend Post wine columnist Sam Venter who had a hand in the brewing. Beer isn’t just a guy thing!
Another of my go-to gals went to the Nelson Mandela Metropolitan Art Museum’s exhibition walkabout with Maxhosa designer Laduma Ngxokolo on Saturday.
I’m told the soft-spoken designer gave guests some behind-the-scenes insight into his Xhosa menswear designs displayed at the museum as part of the Mother Tongue exhibition that opened in 2018.
My minion says the walkabout attracted a large crowd, showing just how much Laduma is appreciated in his hometown.
Skinners is glad that, even though she can barely afford the socks which are deemed among the cheapest items from the brand, the Bay continues to cheer its golden boy on.
Spotted there were some of the Bay’s bloggers and fashionistas including the designer Nokonwaba Ngxingo, whom I’m told is a part of the Eastern Cape Fashion Designing Council.
My minion says the fashionsta rocked a white top with pink flowery detail on the front right shoulder.
If my minion’s description is anything to go by (and, trust me, it is), I have no doubt she deserved to be crowned one of the best-dressed guests at the 2018 Mandela Bay Fashion Week. It’s an everyday thing, it seems.
See you next week. Ciao!
