NMB Queer Festival at Patapata Lifestyle and the Black Impala auditions kept me busy

Hello dolls.
It seems last weekend was one of those with too many events and very little time for your favourite gossip vacuum to hop around.
Because a girl can only party as much as her slowly aging body can allow, I managed to make a round at Patapata Lifestyle where the NMB Queer Festival was held.
It seems that the Bay is getting more and more into the habit of hosting such events and Skinnerbek can only commend where diversity thrives.
Impressed with the attendance and flamboyance dominating the do, Skinnerbek thought to hang around for a while and watch people go from looking glowy to not-so-glam as the drinks settled in their systems.
While I danced around to the admirable work of the DJ whose face I couldn’t quite put a name to ... don’t give me that look, any move is a dance, okay?
So as I shook my not-too-flexy behind on the dance floor I noticed Ziyanda Qupe, Mfundo Bangisa and Live Xweso dancing on tables. No matter how fun a party is, Skinners worries when grownups dance on tables made of wooden pallets. But who cares when people are having fun ... until someone gets hurt.
Skinners wasn’t familiar with many of the performers on the lineup, but the main act was Kim Mbongo all the way from Swaziland. Exciting, huh? Well, not so much when she said her goodbyes after three songs.
The good sis came from Swaziland to perform three songs? Amazing!
The crowd, as surprised as Skinners, chanted for more while Nontuthuzelo Jolingana and Nomsa Fastline stood with blank faces in disbelief.
I moved on to Black Impala on Sunday, where local artists auditioned to open for Amanda Black at her gig to be held at the Boardwalk ICC on April 14.
Now, not to sound like a broken record but one would swear PE invented talent and this event was nothing short of spectacular as far as talent is concerned.
The artists had to submit audition videos to be selected for the live audition and although Skinnerbek trusts the judgment of the judges, it seems the audience didn’t quite agree with their choice of singer Nomty, who was not well received at the live audition.
However, the rest of the acts, including LoveChild, Athi Capone, Clique Claq’s Thokozile Makamba and Joliza Magayiyana, had the audience rallying behind them.
The winner was set to be revealed on Thursday but Skinners has already made up her mind about Joliza being her fave.
Not to take away from the acts whom the event was all about, but if there were ever such a thing as an “MC Crush” Msikeleli Moli would definitely be mine. There are very few things Skinnerbek likes more than an MC who does the job without trying too hard.
Until next week. Ciao!
