Skinnerbek | Janu-worry party scene a bit on the dry side

Beginning-of-year Salticrax

Hello dolls. Your favourite gossip girl is back and ready to skinner.
Because some people still have not learnt how to party hard in December and leave some extra cash to avoid the infamous “Janu-worry”, the Bay party scene has been as dry as a bone this month. However, Skinnerbek never lets anything stop her from partying when the opportunity presents itself.
So when someone put “Ladies’ Night’, Ekupholeni Cocktail Lounge and Black Tye” in one sentence, Skinners knew that’s where she needed to be.
Although the event was not well attended because, well... Janu-worry, the likes of DJ Sully, comedian Tsepiso Nzayo and musician Temba Ncetani who were there seemed to be having quite a good time.
The ladies at the door received free welcome drinks and Skinnerbek spotted some who tried to cheat their way into second welcome drinks. But because it’s the toughest and what feels like the longest month of the year, your gossip girl will let it slide.
Enough about free drinks and on to Black Tye, the entertainer of the night. While I’ve seen him perform before, I think the performance he delivered on Wednesday night was one for the books. The singer performed with bass guitarist Edgar Muzah and pianist Mthoozisi Mabuza, leaving us wondering who had inspired the song Buyisa, an ode to lost love. I’m sure the ladies will agree when Skinners says the mystery woman shot herself in the foot by leaving a brother so easy on the eye!
Speaking of being easy on the eye, the good-looking Umhlobo Wenene news reader Bukiwe Zide had a couple of people wanting to rub shoulders and make conversation with her all night. Skinners can’t decide whether she is liked for her pretty face or the voice.
Skinners partied freely knowing she had taken a step closer to a new year’s resolution of polishing her kitchen skills on Monday at the Eastern Cape Chefs Forum’s chocolate masterclass. Although a bit disappointed that it was a lot more theoretic than practical, Skinners is glad she went and got herself a bit of knowledge. If it did not feel so much like a university lecture room, maybe I would do it again.
But for now, let’s party some more and catch up again next week.
Ciao!
