WATCH | SA tenors now wowing the world
After wowing their home country and the world with their vocal talent since the beginning of the Greece Got Talent season, the South African Tenors are back home to refresh and prepare for the semifinal stage of the competition in December.
The three opera singers, Eastern Cape’s Luvuyo Situmane, 27, and KwaZulu-Natal’s Sandile Sikhosana, 31, and Simangaliso Thango, 25, have been the talk of the town since they impressed the competition’s judges, earning themselves the Golden Buzzer – a form of admission into the semifinal round.
Situmane said they were happy to be back home, especially after the love and support they have received from South Africans fans following their progress in the competition online and on social media.
“The support we’ve received has been the highlight of our journey,” he said.
Although they had not anticipated South Africans to show much support for opera music, the surprise was a pleasant and welcome one, Situmane said.
“We thought South Africans wouldn’t care much but as soon as we saw how much appreciation we were receiving, we learned that SA is actually not all we thought it was,” he said.
The trio spent the first week of their return with their respective families and will reunite next week to prepare for the competition, before they return to Greece.
While they all hail from SA and sing like they have been singing together all their lives, the trio came together earlier in 2018, while working together at Remarc Shows.
“We started singing together while serving our six months contract with Remarc, which ended at the end of October and fortunately we got a pass [on Greece Got Talent] to skip all other remaining rounds and return for the semifinals in December,” he said.
The three had come across one another in the SA choral fraternity scene but have never sang together.
In Greece, they performed together at hotels and were encouraged by supporters to enter Greece Got Talent.
Situmane said they had some performances scheduled for SA before they returned to Greece.
“We have been invited to sing at a couple of events just to give South African’s a taste of what we will be taking to Greece,” he said.
They usually perform covers of known opera music, but not for long, as Situmane said they would soon be working on original material.
The singer said they would share a link for live streaming of the semifinals on their facebook page The South African Tenors...
