Bay serves week of diverse and delectable pickings

Hello dolls.
Your gossip girl is back with your favourite mgosi column. So last week was the big week – Mandela Bay Fashion Week – and your Skinners was there for it all.
While I can’t take you through every last detail of the three nights, I can tell you that Port Elizabethans sure know how to slay on and off the runway. I was a bit sceptical before it started as not so many people made an effort in 2017. But honey, in 2018 nobody came to play! The likes of Kitibella shoe gal Nadine Murray showed us who’s boss on all three nights. And who talks fashion and neglects to mention BLC Attorneys’ Sonja Tifloen, who rocked a bold glittery pair of boots on day two?
The who’s who of the Bay were spotted and while I could spend time listing them for you, the girl has to move on. I did however spot actor Tazz Nginda sitting in the front row on Saturday night. While I almost got excited to see one of our own national celebrities enjoying one of the Bay’s fastest growing shows, I stopped myself in my tracks and figured he actually must have a lot of time on his hands seeing that we haven’t seen much of him on TV – or anywhere – lately. Skinners had a tough time trying to recall where she knows his good-looking face from. Should we, perhaps, refer to him as a “former” actor?
It was my minion’s turn to be out and about at the final Baakens Food Truck Funday for the year at Baakens Valley on Sunday. She tells me there wasn’t much going on there out of the ordinary – a relief for an exhausted Skinnerbek who feared missing out. I hear people braved the bad weather to enjoy the food and music with their families. My minion moved on to watch So What Sarafina?, a musical directed by Xabiso Zweni and performed by pupils from Walmer Township at the Savoy Theatre on Sunday. I’m told it was quite an impressive show, which put a spotlight on young performers who could potentially be the Nomhle Nkonyenis and Winston Ntshonas of tomorrow. Spotted at the event were musician Dumza Maswana, actress Asanda Hanabe and couple Sizwe Yaze and Ntlantla Swana. If Skinners didn’t know better, she’d swear Yaze and Swana are attached at the hip.
The other big social event this week was the launch of Bay businessman Khusta Jack’s memoir at the Boardwalk, which was attended in numbers. My peeps told me the Boardwalk ICC was packed and that it was a book bash with a difference, as there were about 1,000 guests and entertainment which included a church choir, jazz artists, a lively Q&A and more. If he runs his office like he ran the launch party on Wednesday, no surprise this popular PE personality is such a success in business!
Until next week dolls. Ciao!
