Enjoy letting your hair down

Here are some hair survival tips for your year-end celebrations

Can you believe it? The “save-the-date” invites for year-end parties are already starting and no doubt the questions running through your mind are: What am I going to wear? What am I going to do with my hair?
You can go with any style you want, but are you aware of the effects certain styles have on your hair?
Over-styling, overheating and the over-use of chemicals to colour or bleach your locks can damage your hair and eventually lead to it thinning.
Being prepared for the upcoming celebrations, and deciding on simple and easy hairstyles are sure to help keep your tresses, long or short, in a good condition.
Vigro brand manager Nomfundo Majozi offers the following five tips on how to get the perfect party hair without damaging it:
Wash your hair the morning of the event.
This gives your hair’s natural oils the chance to build up during the day, making it easier for you to manage your hair when styling.
If you are going to use heating products such as a hair dryer or a straightening iron, be sure to use them on a lower heat setting as this will damage your hair less.
Invest in a nourishing conditioner.
Over-styling can leave your hair dry and limp, and using a good, nourishing conditioner will help give your hair some of its life back.
A leave-in-conditioner is also a must so that your hair has the chance to recuperate during the day.
Don’t brush your hair while wet.
Your hair is susceptible to breakage after being washed, and brushing it will cause more damage.
Use a comb in the shower to work the conditioner through your hair and also afterwards when gently getting the tangles out.
Don’t avoid going for a trim.
Trimming your hair helps to eliminate split ends, and even if you are trying to grow your hair, the damaged area will just keep making its way up the shaft causing more damage.
