Food, wine and outdoor fun at Knysna event

The annual Knysna Oyster Festival kicked off yesterday and the organisers have hand-picked 10 items from the more than 100 fun festival activities happening until next Sunday .
1. Foodie fun
Locals will compete in the Pick n Pay fish braai competition at the Woodmill Lane Shopping Centre on Thursday  from 4 to 6pm. Don’t miss the oyster shucking and eating competition on Friday from 12 noon to 1pm, also at Woodmill Lane.Pick n Pay Smart Shopper card holders can reserve a spot at the Fresh Taste of Pick n Pay, at Woodmill Lane, where oysters, accompanied by Heinz hot sauce, will be served with wine or bubbly from Van Loveren.Two sessions will be run on Wednesday from 4 to 5.30pm and the second from 5.30pm to 7pm.
2. Mix it up
Mix up your festival fun with some of the many tourism activities on offer, such as a trip on the Knysna lagoon paragliding and even bungy jumping.
Watch the Harbour2Heads Lagoon Challenge tomorrow the marathon-style paddling on the Knysna Estuary, or check out the Momentum Knysna Lagoon mile swim on Monday.
3. Wine, wonderful wine
The Knysna Wine Festival moves to Thesen Island this year On Monday and Tuesday  from 5 to 9pm wine lovers will be able to sample  200-plus wines from more than 50 wine producers, as well as craft liquors Tickets at R150 are available at Webtickets.
4. Hit the road and trail
The Momentum Knysna Cycle Tour MTB events kick off festivities today with challenging trails through s forests and farmlands. Tomorrow’s Momentum Knysna Cycle Tour road races on Sunday feature a 115km and 50km route. Also not to be missed are the family rides, kiddies’ ride and MTB X.
5. A splash of colour –with a social conscience
Knysna Municipality’s economic development team has supported local entrepreneurs to host events Bulelane Memane will  host the Colour Splash Party.Oliver Mabukane is organising tomorrow’s Ikasi Colour Fun Run on Sunday, to be followed by a street bash after party. Vuvu Ralushe will be host the Green Carpet Fashion Extravaganza at Club Vinyl on the Main Street of Knysna next Sunday.
6. A breath of fresh air
Sign up for the FNB Forest Family Hike on either Monday, Wednesday or Friday.There is a brisk hike over 10km, and shorter rambles of 6km and 2.5km.
7. Don’t forget the elephants
Get up close with elephants in the Knysna Elephant Park and all manner of wildlife at wildlife sanctuaries in the area.
8. Just for laughs
The Comedy Chuckle is at Mitchell’s Brewery on Thursday
9. On your marks
The hugely popular Momentum BIG5 Challenge includes the Momentum BIG5 and Momentum BIG5Lite,which start and finish with the Momentum Knysna Cycle Tour MTB and the Momentum Knysna Forest Marathon’s Half Marathon. Additional events include swimming, trail running and MTB X events.
10. Runners rule
The Momentum Knysna Forest Marathon and Half Marathon,are next Saturday. On Tuesday, the Momentum Featherbed Trail Run provides an 11km and a 15km Coelacanth option. Next Sunday’s Houtkapper Trail Run on Sunday  has 9km, 15 km and 27 km trails through the Garden Route National Park.
