From root to fruit

Come sniff, swirl and sip some of country’s best wines and bubbly at TOPS at SPAR Wine Show

The TOPS at SPAR Wine Show is heading back to Port Elizabeth next month, having proved itself a successful formula both here and elsewhere in South Africa.
Upwards of 200000 enthusiastic wine drinkers have walked through the show’s doors from inception to sniff, swirl and sip some of the country’s most-loved wines and bubbly.
The show’s quirky WINEderland theme leaves visitors spellbound in the magical world of wine where they get the chance to engage with their favourite pourformers, be edutained in the Weekend Post Wine Theatre, or sip into something more comfortable in the VIP lounge. The TOPS at SPAR Wine Show was launched in 2006 and has become what is arguably South Africa’s fastest-growing consumer wine exhibition.
Buoyed by its new owners in 2015, the event now hosts five shows around the country in Johannesburg, Durban, Nelspruit, Port Elizabeth and Cape Town between May and December.
The Port Elizabeth show will be held at the Boardwalk from July 24 to 26 from 5pm to 9pm on the Thursday and Friday, and 3pm to 9pm on the Saturday.
With new premium ticket options to be made available this year, WINEderland will have something to satisfy every palate, including a limited Private Premium Tasting option for experienced wine enthusiasts, a double ticket option which includes a set of six Libby wine glasses from Core Catering, or the showstopper, an all-access option that includes canapes, limited complimentary wine bar, 2018 Platter’s Guide, access to the VIP lounge as well as a Private Premium Tasting.
In addition, this year will see the inclusion of a second wine theatre, the #SAwineshowcase theatre, presented by Hashtag Radio personality Jon Meinking.
Considered the equivalent of wine speed-dating, this intimate experience is perfect for those wanting to expand their wine horizons and will be presented as a blind tasting, so as to eliminate any bias towards varietal, region, farm and price.
Much like his radio programme, Meinking’s aim is to enlighten the mindset of the traditional wine consumer and make them more receptive towards other wine varieties, wine regions and diverse expressions of their usual favourites.
Tickets are available online with new ticketing provider Quicket. General admission is R140 online or R160 at the door.
All ticket options include a tasting glass, all tastings, access to the Weekend Post and #SAwineshowcase theatres, as well as a map to help navigate the show.
