Kuze to vibe up Jazz’Afro Sundays stage

Bay musician Alex Kuze will perform on the PE Opera House Barn stage on Sunday in the last instalment of the current Jazz’Afro Sundays programme.
Kuze took up the guitar in the 1970s while attending Cowan High School in New Brighton alongside young musicians Lawrence Matshiza and Sizwe Zako, who would later become producers to the stars.
During that time, Kuze played many fundraising shows in aid of detained students, at New Brighton’s historic Rio Cinema, telling their story through song.
In the 1980s, Kuze formed a band which played around the Bay. He also made TV appearances and composed jingles for the then Radio Xhosa.
In the 1990s, his music also featured in local films and TV series such as Footprints.Kuze has shared the stage with revered artists such as Steve Kekana, Pure Magic and George Benson.
His music is a blend of quintessential township sounds infused with an international flair.
Joining him on stage will be Dennis Spencer on bass guitar, Mzwanele Maqhosha on keyboard and Sakhi Nompozolo on drums, with Noluthando Landu and Bella Velaphi providing backing vocals.
A cash bar is available in the upper foyer and there is a sweet counter on the ground floor.
The show starts at 5pm. Admission is R70 (R50 for pensioners). Seating is limited, so it is best to arrive early.
