Proudly SA feast of dance freedom

Port Elizabeth’s Candice Johnstone Dance Academy will present Flamboyance this weekend at the PE Opera House.
The production includes contemporary, ballet and musical theatre and draws on the strengths of the 86 dancers in Johnstone’s studio for the shows on Friday and Saturday.
“The Dance Academy’s performances will highlight a fresh approach to dance, celebrate the freedom of movement and incorporate all the things we love about South Africa,” Johnstone said.
“The production will be pertinent to our contemporary country but relates to our roots and the place we call home. The tone, quality of the dancers and costumes and the lighting by Dave Limbert will add to the show’s visual flamboyance.”
An acclaimed choreographer, as well as dance teacher, Johnstone has successfully staged several shows since 2005 such as Dancers et Haute Couture, I Have a Dream, Queen of Dance and I Love to Dance.
Johnstone is also well known for her big-scale local productions, such as The King and I, Evita, Chicago, Cabaret, Fiddler on the Roof, Footloose, Guys & Dolls, High School Musical and Oklahoma, and has won numerous awards for her contributions to the performing arts.
