The Hemiola Chamber Choir will tour the Great Karoo from September 15 to 17.
In Port Elizabeth, the choir recently presented Hemiola meets Mohair, conducted by Rochelle Oelofse, at Mohair South Africa in Walmer, an evening of song and music that encapsulated the works of Robert Schumann, Steve Dobrogosz and more.
“It was a wonderful opportunity to showcase mohair by inviting the community into our store through music and bridging the gap between mohair and music,” Mohair SA managing director Deon Saayman said.
The choir will now host concerts in the John Rupert Theatre, as well as Die Grote Kerk in Graaff-Reinet.
Since its inception in 2015, the chamber choir has performed at various churches and festivals within the Eastern Cape.
The choir held its very first concert in September last year and hosted its first choral workshop with the Zolani Youth choir from Ashton in the Western Cape later that year.
“The Hemiola Chamber Choir recognises that music is a tool that can be used to educate and uplift those who experience it and as such the choir strives to engage with different groups in the community, choral or otherwise, in an effort to share their music,” Oelofse said.
Under the direction of Oelofse, the choir is working hard to make a name for themselves in the choral music world.
The 17-member multicultural chamber choir includes a diverse group of singers with extensive choral music experience.
In addition to their choral music experience, many of the choir members are experienced musicians with a wide range of instruments between them, including woodwind, brass, string and percussion instruments.
