Bay's Williams in top 10 of 'Idols SA'

PORT Elizabeth Idols SA hopeful Christina Williams has secured a spot in the top 10 of the popular singing show.

Williams, who impressed the judges on Sunday with her rendition of Emeli Snade's single Clown, will now battle it out with the nine remaining contestants.

If she wins, Williams will be the first winner from Port Elizabeth.

After Sunday's performance, 5FM DJ Gareth Cliff said: "Wow. I have to acknowledge that I completely underestimated you. Vocally, that was exceptional."

MetroFM breakfast co-host Unathi Msengana said: "At this stage, I feel like I just want to go home."

Radio and television personality Randall Abrahams joked: "Where the hell did you come from?"

Speaking before the Top 10 announcement, Williams said she had not intended entering the competition, let alone hope to go far.

"I literally decided to enter Idols at the last minute when my mother, Mary, kept begging me to do so."

She said she did not think she stood a chance of winning.

"But then I wanted to see for myself, and see just how far I could go. I never thought I'd be where I am now."

Williams said it was an honour to represent her hometown.
