Salute to a legend

THE legend of Bob Dylan will come to life in Port Elizabeth early next week with a salute to the iconic singer-songwriter. Bob Dylan – Greatest Hits, A Tribute Concert will be staged at The Music Kitchen in Newton Park, on Monday September 23 at 7.30pm.

The show has been a hit with audiences in Cape Town, East London, Bloemfontein, and other centres in South Africa.

"Dylan has been hailed as one of the greatest songwriters of the 20th century," said Mick Laden, from East London, who performs as Dylan in the show.

"His revolutionary style of songwriting influenced the public and a new generation of thinkers and musicians.

"Dylan opened up a new market, laying a path for many new original artists to follow."

In July last year, Dylan received the presidential medal, an award presented to him by American President Barack Obama.

Obama stated that Dylan was a "giant among musicians".

Obama went on to say that many great musicians, including Bono and Bruce Springsteen, owed a debt of gratitude to Dylan.

Laden performed professionally in the UK and the US for many years with an authentic portrayal of Dylan's original vocal style. The other member of the group, guitarist Phillip Stone, has performed professionally in Durban and Johannesburg for many years.

The audience can look forward to hearing Dylan's greatest hit songs like Blowin' in the Wind, Tambourine Man, Like a Rolling Stone, The Mighty Quinn and many more.

"It is noteworthy that 40 years after these hit songs were written, Dylan's songs still convey a very meaningful message," said Laden.

Tickets can be booked by phoning (041) 364-1964.
