No Noah for now at the Boardwalk

FUNNYMAN Trevor Noah was forced to call off this week's sold-out performances at the Boardwalk's Vodacom Amphitheatre in Port Elizabeth at the last minute yesterday for medical reasons.

Noah, who was to start his seven-day run last night, underwent emergency laser surgery on his vocal cords four weeks ago. He said via social media yesterday he was "devastated" about cancelling his Port Elizabeth shows.

"It breaks my heart to tell you that I have to postpone my PE shows. My voice is not yet strong enough to do back-to- back weeks of shows.

"This week I spend with my otolaryngologist and speech therapist working to make my voice stronger," he said.

"Again. I'm terribly sorry PE, I will still come to PE for this tour and I hope you can still come and join me at the shows."

Noah's producer, Ryan Harduth, said yesterday they had been advised to postpone this week's performances following a checkup. He had just completed five shows in Durban.

"After the performances his throat felt sore, so he went to the surgeon who recommended seven to 10 days' rest and no talking as his cords are still tender from the surgery."

Harduth said 3500 tickets had been sold for the seven shows and they were negotiating with the Boardwalk for new dates.

The Boardwalk Casino general manager Brett Hoppé said those who had bought tickets using a credit card or online would be automatically reimbursed. Those who paid cash should go to their nearest Computicket to be reimbursed.
