Big Man and Bear to sing audience favourites at Music Kitchen

Bay acoustic duo Big Man and Bear will be live at The Music Kitchen in Newton Park on Friday night and the duo will mostly perform cover songs requested by the audience from a song list.
“It gets the audience involved in a different way. They’re often eagerly awaiting whether or not their song will get drawn from the [request] hat,” duo member Hugo Kleinhans said.
The other member is Megan du Toit.
The couple tested the idea while they performed on cruise ships over the past two years and received a positive response from audiences.
“We’ve been working on cruise ships for the last two years. It was a great opportunity to see the world and meet people from all walks of life. It’s hard work having to sing every day, but it’s also a great deal of fun,” Kleinhans said.
“Our first shows were under our real names. At some stage I wanted a name that sounded like a place where you can buy craft beer or artisanal coffee. [Big Man and Bear] is what we came up with,” Kleinhans said.
Entry to The Music Kitchen show, set to start at 8pm, costs R40 or an old pair of jeans.
“The idea for old jeans at the door comes from Ian Mitchell, owner of The Music Kitchen. He has a surprise in store with them, so I’ll just leave it at that,” Kleinhans said.
