Food trucks Christmas edition
The Baakens Food Truck Funday Christmas Edition hits the valley on Sunday December 23 at WERK_.
The family market, held on Lower Valley Road, will start at 11am and end at 4pm. The community event will see 15 food trucks, tuk-tuks and trailers showcase their offerings in the heart of the Baakens valley. Visitors can expect the best of the Eastern Cape street food scene with everything from wood-fired pizzas and seafood dishes to home-made curries, Mexican meals and Asian cuisine.
Baakens Food Truck Funday also provides a platform for local musicians, with live performances by Udaka, Wolf, Bena B, Justin Walsh and Delura. Kids are catered for with activities like face painting or playing at the inflatable play park. Bar facilities are also available from the Richmond Hill Brewing Company and Benn Koppen, with a range of craft brews on offer. There will also be a craft and design market for last-minute Christmas gifts. “The family market has no entry fee, all meals will be capped at R60 and there is a definite focus on a quality, fun, family environment,”, co-organiser Grant Foong said.
Support partners Mandela Bay Development Agency (MBDA) will be offering free tuk-tuk rides around the Baakens with a pit stop at St Peters. “Drivers will direct passengers to the venue and St Peters ambassadors will be on site to share a bit of history about the area,” the MBDA’s Andiswa Kota said. The shuttle will run from 11am to 4pm. Safety will be taken care of by Magnum Alarms and Gardmed Ambulance Service. Visitors are encouraged to bring along picnic blankets and camping chairs, and there is limited space available inside the WERK_ workshop in the case of poor weather. Dogs on leads are allowed into the event.
