'Umgalelo' comedy show at Centenary Hall

Apart from jelly, custard and Choice Assorted biscuits, nothing screams Christmas in the townships like a stokvel payout – and 3 Is A Crowd Entertainment company proves it is embracing the Christmas spirit with its upcoming Umgalelo (Stokvel) Comedy Show.
This will be accompanied by a Christmas grocery combo for one lucky guest on Friday December 21 at Nangoza Jebe Hall in New Brighton.
Apart from Port Elizabeth’s Lonwabo Xatasi and Nkosinathi Maki, Cape Town’s Natasha, and Johannesburg-based Mbulelo “ManyLaughs” Msongelwa, the primarily vernacular show brings together 11 comics from across SA to tickle the Bay’s funny bone.
Included in the line-up is Klerksdorp comedian Liya Nqaba, who rose to fame through social media when funny videos of the comedian sharing his take on various general topics circulated on Facebook. In one of his videos widely shared on Facebook between 2017 and early 2018, the comedian joked how happy he was at the rise of cannibalism in SA.
“It makes me so happy that people have started eating other people now, very soon we will no longer be slaughtering cows for our traditional ceremonies, [instead] we will be discussing which family member to slaughter and eat next,” he said in the video.
Nqaba’s videos attracted a lot of attention, earning him loyal social media fans.
The comedy show’s name and grocery combo prize were inspired by the stokvel payout season, co-organiser Xatasi said.
“It’s the festive season and most people are getting a share from their stokvels, but not everyone. Hopefully this combo will help whoever to feed their family for a couple of months.”
Xatasi co-organises township comedy shows annually with partners Ntsika Sqhazolo and Tsepiso Nzayo under their entertainment company 3 Is A Crowd Entertainment.
In 2017, the trio put together a similar show titled Bay Christmas Chuckles Corner Lounge in New Brighton.
Umgalelo (Stokvel) Comedy Show will start at 6pm. Single tickets are R150 and R240 for double tickets.
Contact Xatasi on 065-892-3892 or Nzayo on 073-966-1583 to purchase tickets.
