WIN WITH THE HERALD
Mystery and danger in 'Carnival Sideshow and Other Magical Things'
Catch PE illusionist Brendon Peel and escape artist Li Lau at the Savoy
The Herald readers can win tickets to the National Arts Festival hit “Carnival Sideshow and Other Magical Things” with mentalist and magician Brendon Peel and daredevil escape artist Li Lau this month.
Peel and Li are bringing “Carnival Sideshow and Other Magical Things” to the Savoy Theatre in Perridgevale from Thursday to Saturday December 20 to 22.
The family friendly production combines the art of magic and sideshow, with magic tricks, danger, classic sideshow routines, escapes and “never before seen stunts”, Peel said.
“It had quite a buzz about it in Grahamstown, we had some of the craziest reactions so that is one reason we are doing it here in our home town.
“It’s something totally different – how often do you get danger stunts mixed in with magic? Li is one of very few who does this in the whole country.
“I bring the magic and he brings the crazy!” he said, referring to Li’s stage nickname of “One Crazy China”.
The duo have filled the show with magic tricks, danger, classic sideshow routines, escapes and never-before-seen stunts.
Peel’s witty sense of humour and magic can keep all ages engaged while Li’s “insane stunts will make you question the realms of what is possible or real”.
There will also be an attempt to set a new world record when Li tackles a dangerous escape he devised known as the “flaming pick”. This will involve regulation handcuffs and a lit torch held between his teeth.
