A quartet of experienced Port Elizabeth folk musicians – each individually accomplished in their own right – have formed a four-piece musical collective, the Armchair Sessions, which launches this weekend.
The folk collective of Ants Keogh, John Dickin, Moorrees van Aarde and Al Gillies will play at Art on Target on Saturday, November 10.
“The umbrella theme of the Armchair Sessions was a desire to create an intimate performance space where artists and audience meet in a lounge type setting, providing a platform for all types of popular music genres in a more acoustic mood,” Gillies, a long-standing member of the Four Winds Music Club, said.
“Teaming up with Art on Target we are confident this could be achieved.”
All four men have been on the music scene in Nelson Mandela Bay for many years, and active in Four Winds in particular.
In the past they have teamed up with various other musicians to promote shows and in some cases have also recorded.
Gillies said this new show would have a strong hint of acoustic blues and contemporary folk, all presented with strong four-part vocal harmonies.
Each member will also offer one or two favourite solo songs to show their individuality as performers.
The Armchair Sessions is at 7 for 7.30pm at Art on Target, 2 Target Kloof, Essexvale.
