Bay Beach Camp Festival
New event at Mangold's Pool
Port Elizabeth’s first Beach Camp Festival kicks off the Eastern Cape summer season on Saturday, November 24 at Mangold’s Pool in Schoenmakerskop.
The Corona Beach Camp Festival – organised by the same team which runs Baakens Food Truck Funday – is planned as an annual family event and will run from 11am until 11pm.
“Mangold’s Pool is one of the oldest camping grounds in Port Elizabeth, famous for its really big tidal pool. Not many people know about this stunning venue, tucked away in the suburb of Schoenmakerskop.
“The venue has campsites, chalets and tidal pools to swim in and snorkel. It is situated along Marine Drive and is honestly a gem!” co-organiser Tayla Foong said.
The day will include activities such as: A trail run organised by Live Adventure;
Yoga with Wine Down;
Secret Sunrise dance;
Snorkeling tours with Pro Dive;
Pop-up Cinema;
Helicopter flips with the Helicopter Pilot Training Centre and E’scape Airtours These tickets will be sold separately to general festival tickets.
The Baakens Food Trucks will roll in with street food such as gourmet burgers, artisanal pizza and Asian dimsum, Indian cuisine, vegan meals and dessert, of course.
There will also be a craft market curated by WERK_ with local artists and craftsman showcasing their work.
The Corona beach bar will provide a host of beverages throughout the day.
On the music front, there will be two different stages, one at the tidal pool and the other being the main stage.
The festival will provide a platform for local music with performances by Sham De Funk, Wesley Keet, Thoko, the Lawson Brown Steel Band and Jason Gladwin, to name a few.
“We have selected a 100% local line-up to show that we are putting together more than a music festival.
“We want to create a hype around all things local, and show off the talents of the Eastern Cape in a truly unique and magical setting,” says Foong.
Festival goers are invited to bring sunblock, camp chairs, picnic blankets, umbrellas and pool floaties.
Tickets are available at R100 for adults and R30 for kids from Pro Dive in Walmer, La Boca in Central, Foong’s in Baakens Valley and at Mangold’s Pool, online tickets can be bought at http://qkt.io/beachcamp.
