Annual symphony concert
The Rhodes University Orchestra will present its annual symphony concert on Saturday September 22 at 7.30pm in the Guy Butler Hall at the Monument in Makhanda (Grahamstown). The orchestra will also perform in the Nelson Mandela University’s South Campus Auditorium in Port Elizabeth on Sunday September 23 at 3.30pm.
Conducted by David Scarr, the programme will feature prize-winning soloists Mvume Mdidimba (bassoon), Emma Farquarson (soprano) and Analisa Kelemi (mezzo soprano).
The concert will also include the RU Vocal Ensemble and guest virtuoso violinist Naomi Fokkens. The programme will include Shostakovich’s Waltz from the Jazz Suite; Mozart’s Bassoon Concerto (first movement) and a Figaro excerpt (finale Act 4); Mendelssohn’s Violin Concerto (third movement); Delibe’s Lakme Duet; and Dvorak’s Symphony No 8 (third and fourth movements).
