‘Madiba Bay Stories’ pays tribute to Bay composers

Ulagh Williams and the TwoTone Band to play at the Opera House’s intimate Barn theatre

‘Madiba Bay Stories’ pays tribute to Bay composers Madiba Bay Stories, with Ulagh Williams and the TwoTone Band, is coming to the Opera House’s intimate Barn theatre on Friday August 24 for one night only.
The show was created for the 2018 National Arts Festival and brings together Port Elizabeth jazz, soul and pop.
It was written by TwoTone director Williams (piano and voice) and Kyle du Preez (trombone).
The band also pays tribute to other Bay composers such as the late Erroll Cuddumbey, and they will play songs by famous national artists with a Bay connection.
Grant Allison (bass), Bevin Maschaka (drums) and Hez Armoed (guitar) also feature in the band. The show is described as “storytelling crossover jazz” and ranges from ballads and African jazz, to foot-tapping 'ghoema' and marabi-style songs.
Their sound is unmistakably South African and the musicians “play off each other with lots of warm, reassuring smiles and wonderfully intricate solos showcasing individual talents”, according to a Herald NAF Spotlight review from this year’s festival.
Tickets are R100 each and pre-booking is recommended due to very limited space. The show starts at 7.30pm.
