Politics affecting business optimism

NEARLY 40% of South African business executives believe the future political direction of the country is affecting their business decisions and more than 65% say they are putting off investment decisions as a result‚ a new survey shows.

The Grant Thornton's International Business Report surveyed 150 businesses across all industry sectors in South Africa.

In the 2012 first quarter, 42% of private respondents said utilities had negatively affected their businesses and three years later‚ this figure has nearly doubled to 78%.

Optimism for business prospects in the next 12 months is at 30% for the first quarter‚ far from the 60% recorded in the first quarter of 2010. – BDlive
