New car chance for Bay

A FRENCH company’s new massappeal car may be assembled in South Africa – and Nelson Mandela Bay is in pole position as the choice for the manufacturing plant to be based.

This was revealed by Francis Harnie, new managing director of the combined Peugeot Citroen SA, when speaking to The Herald at the launch of a new Peugeot model – the 2008 SUV – in Port Alfred.

On the possibility of building a Peugeot model in South Africa, in particular the 301, Harnie said Peugeot was looking for a South African partner, but not necessarily one involved in the motor industry.
