Netherlands course being launched

A NEW MBA correspondence course is to be introduced in the Eastern Cape by a company with international links.

Global Business Solutions says its MBA degree is offered in partnership with the Business School of Netherlands.

The company, which was originally established in 1989 in the Eastern Cape, will offer the MBA as a part-time programme over two years, starting in May.

Global Business Solutions Port Elizabeth marketing manager Cynthia Streicher said the programme would be delivered through quarterly tuition classes and fortnightly subjects offered in the Pretoria, East London and Port Elizabeth regions.

The degree culminates in a compulsory six-day international conference in Buren in the Netherlands.

Meanwhile, Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University (NMMU) Business School, MBA which is ranked among the top 200 in the world, says this year's students will start with their orientation on Saturday. The students come from Port Elizabeth, Cape Town, East London, George and Gauteng.

School director Steve Burgess says people pursue MBAs because they are in middle management preparing for executive positions. Others, he said, were professionals looking to run their organisations better and others came from various fields in government. Burgess said MBA degrees did not necessarily make the graduates better than others but they helped graduates as they were "focused on general management competencies and preparing people for major responsibilities".

Burgess said the NMMU degree was constantly refreshed and was now more focused on the "triple bottom line", which did not include only economics but also environmental and social sustainability.

The Management College of Southern Africa (Mancosa) also recently advertised for candidates to study towards their distance-learning MBA degree, which includes weekend tutorial options and workshops across the country.

The Business School at Varsity College, which has a branch in the Bay, is offering various short learning programmes for working adults, including courses titled management toolkit, finance for managers and business management.
