Conference on solar energy heats up
THE second Southern African Solar Energy Conference got off to a bright start in Nelson Mandela Bay yesterday, with international and national experts sharing and discussing recent developments in the field of solar energy.
The conference, being held at the Pine Lodge Conference Centre, focuses on photovoltaic and solar thermal technology, systems and applications, and provides an opportunity for solar energy researchers, engineers, technologists and individuals to share and discuss recent developments in their field.
The sessions on photovoltaics, solar thermal and solar resource were packed as industry experts joined together to network.
Yesterday, Department of Science and Technology deputy director- general of research, development and innovation Mmboneni Muofhe stood in for Minister Derek Hanekom and delivered the opening address.
Professor Eicke Weber, founding president of the German Energy Storage Association and winner of the SolarWorld Einstein Award, delivered the keynote address.
Today, the three-day programme continues with an address from director for international business development of Abengoa Solar SA Dr Michael Geyer and sessions on photovoltaics, solar thermal and solar resource.
